Rendering vs. Reality: Magnolia Villas affordable housing in Santa Monica

Magnolia Villas EAH Housing

40 apartments for seniors

Urbanize Los Angeles

June 08, 2022 – Santa Monica, the wrapping is off and the residents have moved in at the Magnolia Villas, a new senior affordable housing development from EAH Housing

The project, which was built just north of the intersection of 10th Street and Broadway, consists of a four-story building featuring 40 one- and two-bedroom apartments. With the exception of a single manager’s unit, the apartments are set aside for rent by seniors making no more than 60 percent or less than the area median income level, with rents ranging from $548 to $1,136 per month.

DE Architects designed the Magnolia Villas, which uses cantilevers, inset balconies, and roof terraces to give texture to its facade while also creating common and private decks for use by its residents.

While construction may have come to a close at the Magnolia Villas, EAH is not done in Santa Monica. The developer was recently selected to build up to 150 income-restricted apartments at the site of Parking Structure 3, and is also planning a 58-unit affordable housing complex at the former home of Santa Monica Nikkei Hall.

Outside of Santa Monica, EAH is also developing affordable housing on La Brea Avenue Hollywood and at two sites in West Hollywood.
