Advocacy Organizations

EAH Housing is very active in advocating for affordable housing policies and funding at the local, state and federal levels. Our many activities include:

  • Supporting efforts to promote affordable housing financing and policies adopted by cities and counties
  • Supporting affordable housing financing measures on the state and local elections ballots
  • Promoting state legislation to change land use laws and provide housing financing in both California and Hawai’i
  • Supporting national-level efforts to advocate with Congress and the federal administration to provide funding for affordable housing
  • Conducting a Get-Out-The-Vote initiative in over 50 municipalities that encourages EAH residents and employees across California and Hawai’i to register and vote each election season
  • Coordinating advocacy activities in Hawai’i and California
  • Collaborating with advocacy groups to support political advocacy and local/regional housing campaigns

EAH Housing maintains membership and participation in many organizations at the local, state and federal levels that promote public policies supporting affordable housing, including:

 

1. California Housing Consortium (CHC)

The California Housing Consortium is a non-partisan advocate for the production and preservation of housing affordable to low- and moderate-income Californians. It represents the development, building, financial, and public sectors united in their goal that every Californian has a safe, affordable place to call home.

2. East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO)

Since 1984, East Bay Housing Organizations has been the leading affordable housing advocacy coalition serving Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. EBHO is a member-driven organization working to preserve, protect, and create affordable housing opportunities for low-income communities in the East Bay by educating, advocating, organizing, and building coalitions.

3. Faith Action for Community Equity (FACE)

Faith Action for Community Equity is a grassroots, interfaith 501(c)3 non-profit organization driven by a deep spiritual commitment to improving the quality of life for our members and all the people of Hawai‘i. FACE is a membership of organizations centered on O‘ahu and Maui which represents a large constituency that is diverse in race and ethnicity, religious affiliation, economic class, and neighborhoods. FACE prioritizes leadership development and training which enables our members to live out our common values.

4. HomeAid Hawaii

HomeAid Hawaii is a non-profit provider of housing for individuals, families, and youth experiencing homelessness in Hawaii. HomeAid Hawaii works with our local building and development industry to give back to our communities by providing discounted or pro-bono labor, supplies, and materials for approved project applications. HomeAid Hawaii also provides support through community outreach activities which include drives (hygiene kits, diapers, food etc.), events, programs, and partnerships.

5. Housing California

Housing California is the leading advocate in the state Capitol on housing and budget policy for homeless and very low-income people. They research and disseminate information to educate legislators and the public. Their mission is to prevent homelessness and to increase the amount of decent, safe, accessible and permanently affordable housing for homeless and very low-income Californians.

6. Housing Hawaii

Housing Hawaii is a broad coalition of public, private, and nonprofit organizations dedicated to creating, preserving and supporting affordable housing through education and development. It is our intention to provide a unified voice that will result in the creation of housing that is affordable for all Hawai’i residents. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of Community Planning and Development in Honolulu is an active partner to Housing Hawaii and provides guidance on its programs. Rural Community Assistance Corporation provides staff and technical assistance to Housing Hawaii.

7. Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo County (HLC)

Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo County works with communities and their leaders to produce and preserve quality affordable homes.

8. Kennedy Commission

The Kennedy Commission is a community-based non-profit that works with residents and community organizations to increase the production of homes affordable to lower income households in Orange County. Originally convened as an all-volunteer organization, the Kennedy Commission was formed in 2001 and named in honor of Ralph Kennedy, a pioneer for the homeless, affordable homes and human rights advocacy in Orange County.

9. National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC)

Headquartered in Washington DC, The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) is a national organization that solely dedicated to ending America’s affordable housing crisis. Through advocacy and education, NLIHC seeks to improve the public’s knowledge of low income housing issues and increase its support for progressive low income housing policy.

10. Non Profit Housing Association of Northern California (NPH)

Non Profit Housing Association of Northern California (NPH) has been the collective voice of those who support, build and finance affordable housing. NPH promotes the proven methods of the non-profit sector and focuses government policy on housing solutions for low-income people who suffer disproportionately from the housing crisis.

In addition to its advocacy work, NPH offers professional training, networking opportunities, and resources for housing policy analysts, advocates and activists.

11. Silicon Valley @ Home

SV@Home is the voice for affordable housing in the Silicon Valley. A membership organization, SV@Home advocates for policies, programs, land use, and funding that lead to an increased supply of affordable housing. Additionally, SV@Home educates elected officials and the community about the need for housing, and the link between housing and other quality of life outcomes, including education, health, transportation, and the environment.

12. Southern California Association of Non Profit Housing (SCANPH)

The mission of SCANPH is to facilitate development of affordable homes across southern California by advancing effective public policies, sustainable financial resources, strong member organizations, and beneficial partnerships.

13. Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition (AHTCC)

Tax Credit Coalition’s mission is to promote affordable housing through the use of federal tax credits. It emphasizes advocacy, education, and partnership to advance policies that benefit low-income individuals and families. Focused on fostering collaboration among stakeholders to improve housing opportunities and alleviate poverty. By advocating for legislative and regulatory changes, it aims to strengthen the effectiveness of tax credit programs and expand housing options for underserved communities.
