Kaniko`o Phase I is a senior community in Lihue that provides affordable rental housing for households with incomes not greater than 60% of the Area Median Income Limit ($36,300 annual income for one person, $41,460 for two).
There are 60 one and two bedroom apartments that are contained in 6 single-story buildings with 6 units each, or in a two-story building that has 24 units. Walkways throughout the property lead to raised garden beds for kupuna that like to garden. The property is situated so as to take advantage of the prevailing tradewinds.
Kaniko`o was developed in partnership with the County of Kauai, Vitus Group, HHFDC and EAH Housing. It opened in January 2015.All applicants and household members must be age 62 years and older to qualify for a unit. Rent includes water, sewer, trash service, and electricity.
Kaniko`o (Rice Camp) is a LEED® Registered Project with a certification goal of Gold.
